GUNTHER Discusses Challenges and Strengths of WWE’s New Generation – With nearly two decades of experience gained in the wrestling dojos of Europe and Japan, GUNTHER has a perspective shaped by years of rigorous training and competing worldwide. Speaking on Six Feet Under with The Undertaker, the former World Heavyweight Champion reflected on how WWE’s developmental system has evolved and the unique hurdles that today’s rising stars face.
According to GUNTHER, one of the biggest obstacles for younger superstars is the reduced number of non-televised live events. He explained that while in-ring training is essential, there is no substitute for working in front of a live crowd on a regular basis. “Right now, we’re in a spot where it’s maybe a little bit tricky for like, the younger guys that just came to the main roster, and maybe they did a year or two in NXT, and then, yeah, we didn’t really do much live events anymore, so I feel like it’s like, hard for them to get like reps in… having a match is like the best exercise you can really do,” he said.
Despite this challenge, GUNTHER had nothing but praise for the caliber of athletes now entering WWE. He singled out Bron Breakker and The Creed Brothers as prime examples of “world-class elite athletes” who have adapted to the demands of professional wrestling far faster than earlier generations typically could. “They transition so much to a lot of things that I think would have taken me five, six years at the beginning to get to it… Bron is a good example of the younger generation that has that mindset… here to work, here to deliver.”
While GUNTHER’s own journey came through the traditional territory and independent system, his respect for today’s Performance Center graduates shows his belief that both paths can produce main-event talent capable of succeeding on WWE’s biggest stages.
