WWE Wants Corey Graves Back on Main Roster Commentary Full-Time – Corey Graves may soon find himself back in a permanent main roster role, as internal support for his continued presence on either RAW or SmackDown appears to be growing.
According to WrestleVotes, there’s a strong belief within WWE that Graves’ talent and passion make him too valuable to limit to occasional appearances or NXT assignments. The report notes that several people backstage feel Graves should have a weekly role on main roster commentary, regardless of whether Pat McAfee is available.
Graves joined WWE in 2011 and transitioned to commentary after retiring from in-ring competition in 2014 due to medical reasons. Over the past decade, he has become one of the company’s most recognizable voices. His recent shift to NXT came after McAfee returned to the RAW commentary booth, which is currently manned by Michael Cole and Pat McAfee. However, Graves has filled in on RAW for the past three weeks during McAfee’s time off.
“There is a strong contingency to get Corey Graves on main roster television weekly regardless of who is or is not available,” the report reads. “While several understand the value that Pat McAfee brings to the company, many feel like Graves is way too good and way too passionate to not be on main roster television week in and week out.”
The report also notes there is no confirmation yet on whether WWE plans to reintroduce a three-man booth for its television broadcasts, a format it has used in the past.
SmackDown currently features Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore, while Graves’ temporary role on RAW could become permanent depending on how WWE chooses to structure its commentary teams moving forward.
