Tony Khan Says Jamie Hayter’s Injury Caused Major Shakeups in AEW

Tony Khan Says Jamie Hayter’s Injury Caused Major Shakeups in AEW – Tony Khan has opened up about the impact Jamie Hayter’s prolonged absence has had on AEW, explaining that her injury led to a domino effect that significantly altered booking plans across the company.

Speaking during the AEW All In: Texas media call, Khan admitted he hadn’t anticipated Hayter being sidelined for this long, which forced AEW to make adjustments to its women’s division and broader roster strategy.

“There are some matches that I would like to have announced. And there’s a bit of a domino effect in these things,” Khan said. “We had a couple of injuries in AEW that changed the flow of things. Just to be transparent, with Jamie Hayter being out longer than I would like in AEW, I made some call-ups and changed the roles of some people.”

While not offering a specific timeline for Hayter’s return, Khan noted that her absence created opportunities for new talent to shine, citing Queen Aminata as a standout example.

“Somebody that’s come in and done a great job on AEW TV in recent weeks is Queen Aminata,” he explained. “Queen Aminata has also been involved at times in ROH. She’s been very prominently involved in AEW television lately and is doing a great job. Whether it’s ROH or AEW, I think she’s a great example of a hard-working person who has done very well and taken advantage of opportunities.”

Khan emphasized the value of having Ring of Honor as a complementary brand, which allows AEW to test, develop, and showcase rising talent.

“When you’re missing a prominent top star for several weeks, like we’ve been missing Jamie Hayter, then you’re going to move other people into those positions,” Khan continued. “People are going to get called up, and there’s going to be reorganization.”

Hayter, a former AEW Women’s World Champion, last competed in May 2023. Her in-ring absence has been a significant hole in the division, but her eventual return will likely be positioned as a major moment.

In the meantime, AEW has leaned into fresh faces like Queen Aminata to fill the void. While some matches for All In: Texas have yet to be announced, it’s clear that internal adjustments stemming from Hayter’s injury are playing a major role in AEW’s evolving landscape.
