Bully Ray Says Hangman Page Should Dethrone Jon Moxley – WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray had high praise for the opening segment of the latest AEW Dynamite, particularly the emotionally charged performance by “Hangman” Adam Page. Speaking on the Busted Open After Dark Podcast, Bully Ray declared that Hangman should be the one to dethrone Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at All In.
“I was really feeling Hangman in this segment,” Bully said. “He made me feel tonight. He was passionate. I believed in him. I believed him. He was speaking with just such realism.” The veteran wrestler was so moved by Page’s promo that he immediately questioned whether AEW should hold off on Darby Allin as the next title contender and instead pull the trigger on Hangman at All In. His ultimate stance: “Hangman should be the guy.”
Bully also pointed to Page’s symbolic act of relinquishing his Owen Hart Memorial Championship to Tony Schiavone, signaling that his full attention was now on the AEW World Title. He emphasized the weight of Page making a “promise” to win the championship, calling it an even stronger commitment than a guarantee:
“Promise is as strong, if not stronger of a word than guarantee, because you don’t want to break your promise to wrestling fans. If somebody put those words in Hangman’s mouth, Hangman needs to know that the company is going to back him up.”
While Bully praised Page’s performance, he also criticized the continued absence of the AEW World Heavyweight Championship from television, stating, “You haven’t seen the championship in about seven months. I don’t even think I saw the briefcase tonight. Nothing, zero, not a zip, nilch.” Despite his frustration, he admitted that this prolonged absence would make the title’s eventual return a major moment:
“Whenever it does appear, it’s going to be a massive moment. By the time it comes out, people are going to be popping for it.”
The segment also featured Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay, with Bully Ray highlighting Ospreay’s endorsement of Hangman. Ospreay told Swerve, “Fans are starting to believe in us again, and it’s because of him [Hangman].” Bully deemed this a crucial moment, urging AEW to capitalize on the momentum.
“If AEW is going to strike again… now is the time. And I thought this was a really strong promo.”
With All In on the horizon, Bully Ray’s assessment adds further intrigue to Hangman’s championship ambitions. Whether AEW follows through remains to be seen.
