Dolph Ziggler vs. WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will take place for the title at the upcoming WWE Super ShowDown event.
As noted, Ziggler returned to WWE on tonight’s SmackDown after being on a hiatus for several months. He attacked Kofi and destroyed him at ringside. Ziggler later appeared before the crowd and said he attacked Kofi because he should’ve been the one getting Kofi’s push over the past few months, including the WrestleMania 35 win.
“I know,” began Ziggler. If I was out there too I’d boo me too. This goes way back. This goes back to when Ali got hurt and Kofi got an opportunity and knocked it out of the park. It should’ve been me. Kofi jumped hoop after hoop and ran the gauntlet. After 11 years of earning everything he became an overnight success and it should be me. Kofi walked into the Elimination Chamber and walked out the other side a star and it should be me. He walked into WrestleMania to fight Daniel Bryan for the WWE title while I sat at home and it should’ve been me.
“On that night, he was the better wrestler and the better man. He won the WWE title and it should have been me. Every day since becoming WWE champion, Kofi has outperformed every single critic and he’s earned it. He’s become a fighting champion and you all respect and admire him. It should be me! That’s why I did what I did. I had to. I had no other choice. At Super Showdown I’m going to beat Kofi for the WWE title because I have to. I will become WWE champion and each one of you will admire me and respect me. You will love me! Your WWE champion.”
Super ShowDown will take place on Friday, June 7 from the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The special will air live on the WWE Network.
