Former WWE ring announcer Greg Hamilton addresses his WWE firing after five years of online speculation, setting the record straight regarding his unexpected exit from the company in October 2021.
Responding directly to fans in an Instagram comment section, Hamilton rejected long-standing rumors surrounding his departure, revealing that Talent Relations let him go over an unapproved music video appearance he claims he had no knowledge of.
Music Video Controversy And Talent Relations Backstage Rules
According to Hamilton, the firing occurred immediately after returning from a WWE broadcast in Saudi Arabia:
“Truth for all of you who have never worked for the FED…..I actually had no idea I was in a video…..I got a call from Talent Relations and was fired for it.”
“I had just landed from Saudi Arabia and was watching Cincinnati Bearcats Football. For years I’ve dealt with your opinions….this is the truth. Got fired for being in a music video I never agreed to for NIL that WWE owned. Y’all done?”
Hamilton’s release originally made headlines in 2021 following a public social media dispute with rapper Westside Gunn, who used audio of Hamilton’s ring voice on a track without permission. At the time, Hamilton publicly threatened legal action against the musician before WWE released him shortly after, leading fans to assume the public confrontation triggered his firing.
Initially framing his departure as a “mutual respect departure” driven by heavy travel demands and a desire to prioritize mental health, Hamilton has grown increasingly candid about WWE’s strict backstage policies. He previously revealed that Talent Relations once reprimanded him simply for tagging a local restaurant he dined at on social media.
Five years later, Hamilton insists the music video misunderstanding was the sole catalyst for his firing, attempting to permanently put the rumors to rest.
