TNA to Crown New X-Division Champion at Bound for Glory

TNA Wrestling will crown a new X-Division Champion at Bound for Glory following a major title shuffle coming out of Lockdown.

Leon Slater reclaimed the X-Division Championship from Cedric Alexander at Lockdown, but immediately announced later in the night that he is exercising “Option C.” By invoking the option, Slater surrenders the X-Division title in exchange for an official shot at TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth.

Santino Marella Outlines Championship Tournament

With the belt now officially vacated, TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella announced the plans to crown a successor:

  • Six-Way Title Match: The vacant X-Division Championship will be decided in a Six-Way match at Bound for Glory.
  • Qualifying Series: Participants will be determined through a upcoming series of single-elimination qualifying matches.
  • Tournament Participants: Specific entrants and matchup brackets have not yet been revealed.

Addressing the division’s status, Marella stated:

“Ladies and gentlemen, it is I, Santino Marella, the Director of Authority. Leon Slater has exercised ‘Option C,’ which means he will challenge for the TNA World title. In light of that, he has vacated the X-Division Championship, and we will be starting a series of qualifying matches in which the winner of each match will then be in a six-way match for the X-Division title at Bound for Glory.”

World Championship Main Event Set for October

Slater’s decision puts him directly in line to challenge Nic Nemeth for the TNA World Championship on Sunday, October 11, at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.

Qualifying matches for the vacant X-Division Championship are expected to begin on the live post-Lockdown episode of TNA Impact broadcasting from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
