Kevin Owens Unloads on CM Punk With Savage SmackDown Promo

The fallout from SummerSlam continued on the August 7 episode of WWE SmackDown, as tensions quickly escalated at the top of the roster. Several major returns shaped the show, including Randy Orton and Kevin Owens, both of whom played key roles in the evolving title picture.

Cody Rhodes opened the show by addressing Randy Orton, following his shocking return at SummerSlam where he helped CM Punk defeat Rhodes. Orton did not appear, but CM Punk interrupted instead. The champion denied having prior knowledge of Orton’s interference, offering little clarity on the situation before Rhodes exited the ring.

Moments later, Kevin Owens made his presence felt. After returning at SummerSlam and securing a number one contender position, Owens came face-to-face with CM Punk in the ring. The confrontation immediately drew a strong reaction from the crowd, who chanted for the two to fight.

Before things could turn physical, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis came out to maintain order. Owens made it clear he did not need interference, while Punk directly asked if he wanted a match. Owens confirmed he was ready, especially after being sidelined for 17 months.

During the exchange, Owens referenced his status as the top contender but also mentioned Cody Rhodes, suggesting another title opportunity could still be on the table. Punk responded by shifting focus to his own legacy, highlighting his drawing power and past criticism.

“do you think they’re waiting for Kevin Owens?”

Owens fired back by reflecting on his own journey, noting it has been ten years since he last held a world title. He expressed confidence that winning it again would mean even more now, especially if it meant defeating Punk.

Punk dismissed those ambitions, calling them unrealistic.

“good to have impossible dreams.”

The verbal exchange intensified as both men questioned each other’s mindset. Punk claimed he does not just believe he is the best, but knows it. Owens countered by accusing Punk of isolating himself with that mentality.

“a miserable piece of sht like you.”*

The segment ended with both men getting in each other’s faces before being separated. Despite the heated confrontation, WWE did not officially announce a match between them. However, the direction is clear, as the rivalry between CM Punk and Kevin Owens continues to build momentum on WWE SmackDown.
