Trick Williams and Lil Yachty have formed a strong connection on WWE programming in recent months. The United States Champion has now explained how the partnership began and why it has worked so well.
During an interview with Travis Singleton of SneakerReporter, Williams shared details about how Yachty became involved. He made it clear that this was not a short-term celebrity appearance. Instead, Yachty has been a longtime fan of wrestling and has regularly attended shows over the years.
Williams said, “Lil Yachty—man, he’s a guy who obviously loves the business. He doesn’t necessarily need to do everything that he’s doing because he’s had, and is having, a very successful hip-hop career, movies, everything like that.”
That passion played a key role in WWE’s decision to bring him in around WrestleMania season. According to Williams, the company wanted to include Yachty in a meaningful way, which led to the idea of the two making an entrance together.

Williams explained that both he and Yachty were approached with the idea. While they both liked it, Yachty wanted more than a one-time appearance. He pushed for something that would feel important and connected to a story.
He said, “The truth is, he just loves the business. That’s why he has come to all the shows for years now. Opportunity came before WrestleMania—they wanted to get him involved in some way.”
Williams added, “They said, ‘How would you feel about walking out with Trick Williams?’ They asked him and they asked me. I thought it was dope, he thought it was dope, but he was like, ‘Man, if we’re going to do this, I don’t want it to be a one-week type thing. I want to have some real storyline going into this. Let’s make this a moment instead of a random one-off.’”
Since then, Yachty has stayed committed. Williams noted that the rapper has been training and working to understand the demands of WWE. This effort has helped make the partnership feel more authentic.
He said, “He has been locked in ever since. Shoot, we’ve got training in about an hour—we make sure that he’s getting active, he’s getting the full experience of being a superstar here with us.”
Williams also spoke about their bond outside of the ring. The two spend a lot of time together, which has strengthened their on-screen chemistry.
He said, “That’s my boy, man—inside the ring, outside the ring. I probably spend more time with Yachty than most other people who are in the business who are my co-workers.”
The partnership has received positive reactions from fans. Williams continues to draw strong crowd responses, while Yachty has earned respect for taking his role seriously. Based on Williams’ comments, this collaboration was built on genuine interest and could continue as more than a short-term crossover.
