Trevor Murdoch Announces Retirement After 27-Year Career

Trevor Murdoch has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, bringing an end to a 27-year career. The announcement came on the latest episode of NWA Powerrr, which marked the program’s first regular Saturday broadcast on Comet TV.

Murdoch addressed the crowd at the OC Theatre in Forney, Texas following his match against Pretty Boy Smooth at the 2026 Crockett Cup. During an emotional moment in the ring, he explained his decision and thanked those who supported him throughout his career.

“What’s going through my mind is I’m not sure if I can do this anymore. I’ve been wrestling for 27 years and I have seen guys that come in here and they’re only here for a payday. They don’t give the fans what they deserve. And I always told myself that if I ever got to that point, I wasn’t gonna be that guy. A little harder than… I don’t want to embarrass myself. I don’t want to embarrass my family. I don’t want to embarrass Harley Race. So at this moment, I am announcing my retirement from pro wrestling. I want to thank the fans. I want to thank you guys. Because of you guys, I’ve been able to put two of my kids through college. You know? It’s all good, you know what I mean? Like, for a fat guy from a small town, 27 years ain’t bad. I want to thank one more dude. He doesn’t get enough credit. His name’s William Patrick Corgan. Billy, you believed in me and gave me an opportunity when even wrestling didn’t want me. You extended my career for seven years man and that I can’t ever give that back to you. All I can say is thank you man. Thank you so much. Thank you.”

Trevor Murdoch Retirement Marks End of Long Career

Murdoch confirmed he will remain involved in wrestling behind the scenes. He is expected to continue working with the National Wrestling Alliance as a producer, while also helping train talent at World League Wrestling and Harley Race Wrestling Academy in Missouri.

Murdoch, born William Theodore Mueller, began his career in 1999 under the guidance of Harley Race. He gained wider recognition during his time in WWE, where he formed a tag team with Lance Cade. The duo captured the World Tag Team Championship three times before Murdoch’s departure in 2008.

He later competed in TNA Wrestling and spent over a decade on the independent circuit before returning to prominence with the NWA in 2019.

Murdoch became a two-time NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, defeating Nick Aldis for his first title in 2021 and winning it again in 2022. He also captured the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Mike Knox and won the 2023 Crockett Cup.

While his in-ring career has come to an end, Murdoch’s presence in the wrestling industry will continue through his work mentoring new talent and contributing behind the scenes.

His retirement closes the chapter on a career that spanned nearly three decades, multiple championships, and a lasting impact across several promotions.
