Kairi Sane’s WWE release has led to strong internal reaction, with many within the company surprised by the timing of the decision. According to reports, her exit came while she was actively involved in a storyline, making the move difficult to understand for those backstage.
Fightful Select reported that there was significant shock within WWE, especially due to Sane’s role in the ongoing program involving Asuka and IYO SKY. The storyline had been building on WWE RAW, and her sudden removal before any clear payoff caused frustration internally.
Sane later addressed fans with a message following the news of her release.
“I’m truly grateful to have people like you by my side. Thank you for always being with me. I’ll set sail in my own time. Until then, I love you.”
Her statement quickly drew support online, with the hashtag WeWantKairi gaining traction across social media platforms. Despite the reaction, there has been no change to her status.
According to PWInsider, the release has not been reversed. The report also noted that Sane has returned to Japan, which makes any short-term appearance on WWE RAW unlikely.
Before her release, Sane was part of a storyline that included tensions between Asuka and IYO SKY. SKY’s alignment with Rhea Ripley added another layer to the angle, while Asuka opposed that partnership, leading to a longer feud that developed through 2025.
Sane’s wrestling career began in World Wonder Ring Stardom in 2011. She later joined WWE in 2017 and competed on WWE NXT before forming The Kabuki Warriors with Asuka. During her initial run, she became one of the more recognized international stars on the roster.
She returned to WWE in 2023 and joined Damage CTRL alongside Dakota Kai, Bayley, and IYO SKY. After the group split, The Kabuki Warriors shifted focus to the tag team division. They captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in November and held them for 55 days before losing the championships in January.
With her release now confirmed and no reversal expected, Sane’s future remains open. Her experience and international profile are likely to draw strong interest from promotions worldwide.
