Cody Rhodes Reflects on WWE Roster Age Ahead of WrestleMania 42

Cody Rhodes has addressed concerns about the age of WWE’s roster, pushing back on the idea that an older lineup is a negative heading into WrestleMania 42. Speaking during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Rhodes explained why he believes experience is a major strength rather than a weakness.

The topic came up as all four competitors in the world title matches at WrestleMania 42 are over the age of 40. Instead of seeing that as a problem, Rhodes compared the current landscape to one of WWE’s most successful periods.

He said, “Well, it goes in phases. In like the golden 80s, we used to joke wrestler prime for the man was 35 to 42. That’s in the golden 80s, and that’s because they needed all that experience psychologically. They worked this town to town, the live crowds are everything. How do you work with a live crowd? How do you involve them? We’re not doing this just for each other and we’re not doing this just for the camera.”

Rhodes pointed out that experience plays a key role in connecting with live audiences, something he believes is essential in WWE.

He also reflected on a time when younger talent was pushed into top roles before gaining that level of experience.

Rhodes added, “A few years ago they brought in what I’d say is like all freshmen on a varsity team. There’s this famous picture of me and CM Punk and Matt Cardona and we’re all babies and we had won the big titles, but we didn’t have a clue really at that point. We didn’t have that experience.”

According to Rhodes, the current roster represents a return to a more balanced and experienced group at the top of the card.

He continued, “So now I think you’re getting back into where you’ve got, I know exactly who we’re talking about here, Roman, me, Punk, Randy, the main events of WrestleMania. I just like to say it’s a very experienced crew.”

Rhodes is part of that group as he prepares to headline WrestleMania 42. He will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton in the Night 1 main event on April 18 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

His comments highlight a different perspective on WWE’s current roster, focusing on experience and proven ability as key factors heading into one of the company’s biggest events of the year.
