Tony D’Angelo Explains His Return and Targets Dark State – The February 3 episode of NXT finally gave Tony D’Angelo the opportunity to fully explain his return and the motivation behind his recent actions. After weeks of impactful appearances with no explanation, D’Angelo addressed the NXT audience directly, offering a personal and calculated statement about where he has been and what comes next.
D’Angelo opened by noting that it had been seven months since he last spoke to the audience. He acknowledged that he could easily explain why he came back, drop the microphone, and leave, but instead chose to reflect on his journey in NXT. He referenced his past accomplishments, including the championships he previously held, and said that last year he was genuinely happy. At that time, he was surrounded by friends and family who supported him and had his back.
That stability, he explained, was taken from him. While he showed respect for his past, D’Angelo described the experience as a wake-up call. He said that in this business, success changes your life. When you are good, you gain a crew and a family, and with that comes responsibility. He admitted that this responsibility was new to him. When Dark State disrupted his life, he was forced to regroup, spending time alone and reflecting on who Tony D’Angelo really was.
During that period, he said he had to remind himself of his identity and credentials, stating that he is a National Champion and an All-American. He emphasized remembering what he does best, which he described as bouncing people’s head off the mat.
D’Angelo then addressed the calculated nature of his return. He said there was a reason he came back the way he did, pointing out that in a business where everyone seems to know everything, nobody knew his plan. He described the current environment in NXT as selfish and said that it aligned perfectly with his goals.
He revealed that he returned for two reasons. The first was Dark State. He made it clear this was not about revenge, stating, This isn’t about vengeance. This is about punishment. He added that Dark State took everything from him, and in return, he intends to take everything from them. As for his second reason, D’Angelo said it would only be revealed once he is finished with Dark State.
