Eric Bischoff Questions AJ Styles' Potential AEW Move

Eric Bischoff Questions AJ Styles’ Potential AEW Move – AJ Styles’ in-ring future remains a major topic following his WWE retirement last month after losing a career-threatening match to GUNTHER at the Royal Rumble. While Styles had openly discussed stepping away from WWE this year, many within the industry believe his wrestling career may not be over entirely, especially after he secured trademarks for his name and logo ahead of the bout.

Speculation quickly turned to what could come next. TNA and AEW have both been mentioned as possible destinations if Styles decides to continue competing. A return to TNA would reconnect him with the promotion where he built his legacy, while AEW would offer a new stage as one of the few major companies he has never worked for.

WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff addressed the conversation during an episode of “83 Weeks,” sharing doubts about AEW being the right fit. He suggested that any move there would likely be motivated by business rather than passion.

“I don’t see him going to AEW. I don’t think he needs the money. He’s done really well in WWE for a long time. I think if AJ decides he’s going to continue to wrestle, he’s going to follow his heart and his heart is probably in TNA,” Bischoff said. “I just don’t know what kind of real fun, for lack of any other term, AJ could possibly have in AEW. I could see him doing an independent tour internationally, but he kind of already wrote that off … going to AEW right now is a money play, which there’s nothing wrong with that at all. It’s a good financial decision. I just don’t know how rewarding it would be to end your career there.”

Bischoff also reflected on Styles’ legacy, noting that despite a successful decade in WWE, he still associates him most with his time in TNA. That period marked the rise of “The Phenomenal One” as a top star and central figure in the promotion’s identity.

Styles has not publicly confirmed any plans to return to wrestling since his WWE exit. For now, his next move remains uncertain, with fans and industry figures continuing to debate whether his career has truly reached its final chapter.
