Rey Mysterio Legitimately Injured During WWE RAW Match – Rey Mysterio suffered a legitimate injury during his match against Austin Theory on the January 26 episode of WWE RAW, raising concern just days before the Royal Rumble.
Mysterio was able to finish the match, but noticeable signs of trouble appeared immediately afterward. When The Vision launched a post-match beatdown on Dragon Lee and Penta, Mysterio did not participate. Instead, he remained on the ring apron, clearly favoring his shoulder as WWE medical personnel checked on him. At ringside, the referee was seen holding up the “X” signal, a sign typically used to indicate a legitimate injury.
Following the angle, the broadcast quickly transitioned to a Natalya promo, while Mysterio was assisted to the back by medical staff. The abrupt shift suggested WWE was attempting to minimize attention on the situation as officials evaluated Mysterio’s condition.
The injury is particularly concerning given Mysterio’s recent return from a groin injury that sidelined him until November. Since coming back, he has reignited his ongoing storyline with his son Dominik Mysterio while also teaming with Penta and Dragon Lee in a feud against The Vision. That rivalry escalated earlier in the night when Adam Pearce reinstated Bron Breakker and announced that all members of The Vision would be entered into the Royal Rumble match. Pearce then immediately set up the rematch between Mysterio and Austin Theory, which led to the injury scare.
At this time, there is no official word on the severity of Mysterio’s shoulder issue or whether it will impact his status for Saturday’s Royal Rumble. Given his recent injury history, WWE is expected to proceed cautiously.
The situation follows another recent RAW injury scare. On last week’s episode, a match between Je’Von Evans and El Grande Americano was stopped due to concerns over Evans’ condition.Tonight, Evans stated he was fine and officially declared himself for the Royal Rumble.
Further updates on Mysterio’s condition are expected as WWE moves closer to the Royal Rumble event.
