Following the angle, the broadcast quickly transitioned to a Natalya promo, while Mysterio was assisted to the back by medical staff. The abrupt shift suggested WWE was attempting to minimize attention on the situation as officials evaluated Mysterio’s condition.
The injury is particularly concerning given Mysterio’s recent return from a groin injury that sidelined him until November. Since coming back, he has reignited his ongoing storyline with his son Dominik Mysterio while also teaming with Penta and Dragon Lee in a feud against The Vision. That rivalry escalated earlier in the night when Adam Pearce reinstated Bron Breakker and announced that all members of The Vision would be entered into the Royal Rumble match. Pearce then immediately set up the rematch between Mysterio and Austin Theory, which led to the injury scare.
At this time, there is no official word on the severity of Mysterio’s shoulder issue or whether it will impact his status for Saturday’s Royal Rumble. Given his recent injury history, WWE is expected to proceed cautiously.
