According to a report from Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful Select, the event is slated for Sunday, May 31, 2026, though the exact city and venue have not yet been revealed. While the event is expected to follow WrestleMania 42 on the calendar and traditionally would carry the Backlash name, that branding has not been confirmed.
The idea of hosting a PLE in Italy first surfaced publicly last September when WWE President Nick Khan discussed the company’s international expansion efforts. At the time, SportsBusiness noted that WWE’s arrival in Italy would align with the launch of WWE’s weekly programming on Netflix within the country, replacing Warner Bros. Discovery. The streaming shift has not yet been formally announced, but the timing suggests it remains part of WWE’s broader strategic rollout.
If the May 31 date is finalized, Italy would become the home of WWE’s sixth premium live event confirmed for 2026. The lineup for that year already includes January’s Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia, February’s Elimination Chamber in Chicago, April’s WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas, August’s SummerSlam in Minneapolis, and September’s Money in the Bank in New Orleans. Italy would also host the second international PLE of the year, marking another step in WWE’s push for global scheduling.
The Italian market has long been a strong supporter of WWE, with live events consistently drawing enthusiastic crowds. Bringing a full-scale PLE to the country marks a significant milestone, both for local fans and for WWE’s continued focus on expanding its international footprint with major arena shows.
