CW President Praises NXT Women’s Division as Strongest in WWE – Brad Schwartz, president of The CW Network, is making no secret of his admiration for WWE NXT’s women’s division.
Speaking Tuesday at the 2025 Sports Business Journal Media Innovators conference, Schwartz reflected on The CW’s decision to bring NXT into its programming lineup in 2024. The move was part of a broader strategy to expand the network’s live sports offerings, but for Schwartz, the standout has been the female talent. “I think the women of NXT are better than the men,” Schwartz said. “The women’s division of NXT is probably the strongest in all of WWE wrestling.”
Schwartz explained that adding sports was a way for The CW to capture simultaneous live audiences, something increasingly valuable in today’s fragmented media landscape. NXT, in particular, offered a unique advantage as a year-round program airing weekly.
“What NXT offered us was the opportunity to have live-event programming 52 weeks a year on a Tuesday night,” Schwartz said. “And so that was a really, really big move for us. We can try and turn these wrestlers into stars, we can market it, we can promote it, we can put the whole machine of Nexstar [the media group that owns The CW] behind getting people to watch it and know that the value of that growth comes back to us for the next five years.”
The CW’s partnership with WWE has already begun to reshape the network’s identity. Traditionally known for scripted dramas and reality programming, The CW has leaned heavily into live sports over the past two years, adding NXT alongside ACC football and LIV Golf. For Schwartz, NXT’s women’s division represents not only strong in-ring talent but also a marketing opportunity to spotlight athletes who can resonate with mainstream audiences.
NXT itself continues to grow in prominence within WWE. Once considered a developmental brand, it has evolved into a platform where stars are built and showcased on a national stage. The women’s division, featuring names like Roxanne Perez, Lyra Valkyria, and Jacy Jayne, has consistently delivered standout matches and storylines, reinforcing Schwartz’s belief that the division is among WWE’s strongest.
Tonight, NXT is in New York City for the start of its Gold Rush 2025 special, a two-week television event designed to highlight the brand’s biggest stars and championship matches. With The CW’s backing and Schwartz’s vocal support, the spotlight on NXT’s women’s division is brighter than ever.
