Backstage Update on Nixon Newell’s AEW Collision Walkout – The situation surrounding Nixon Newell and Miranda Alize’s sudden departure from the November 8 AEW Collision taping continues to develop, with new backstage details coming to light.
As previously reported, the two were originally scheduled to face Tay Melo and Anna Jay in a women’s tag team match at the Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. However, both Newell and Alize walked out of the arena approximately one hour before bell time, reportedly after learning they would be losing for the second straight week. While sources noted that both women were aware of the planned outcome, they were unhappy with the short duration of the match—roughly three minutes—and requested additional time, which AEW officials declined due to a locked production schedule.
In an update from Fightful, this may not have been Newell’s first internal issue within AEW. Sources pointed to her debut match alongside Alize against Marina Shafir and Megan Bayne, describing conflicting accounts about what occurred backstage. Some reported that Newell expressed frustration over the match layout—specifically regarding Bayne selling for the unsigned team, given Bayne’s ongoing push as a dominant competitor. Typically, such creative decisions require approval from coaches or producers, particularly when non-contracted wrestlers are involved.
Others close to Newell suggested her reaction may have been driven more by disappointment than defiance, citing her excitement about debuting and frustration with how quickly the match ended. Another source said Newell wanted to “get the match over with” due to the way the planning process had unfolded.
Additionally, one backstage observer noted that the visible frustration on Megan Bayne’s face during that match appeared legitimate, hinting at real tension during certain in-ring sequences.
When Fightful reached out for comment, Newell denied any prior disagreement, saying, “No, we had no disagreement. Miranda and I are really the only ones that have the details about how yesterday went.” As of publication, she had not responded to follow-up questions about the reported issues.
It was also confirmed that Newell was backstage at AEW Dynamite on November 5, just days before the controversial Collision taping.
