11/21 WWE SmackDown Preview

United States Champion Ilja Dragunov is set to continue his relentless U.S. Open Challenge tonight, once again putting his title on the line against an undisclosed challenger. Dragunov has remained firm in his refusal to grant Tommaso Ciampa a shot at the championship, despite Ciampa’s repeated demands. Instead, Dragunov has built an impressive streak of defenses in recent weeks, turning back Aleister Black on October 24, Nathan Frazer on October 31, Johnny Gargano on November 7, and most recently Axiom during last Friday’s edition of SmackDown.

The fallout from Dragunov’s latest defense has spilled over into tag team competition. Following Axiom’s defeat, Ciampa launched a vicious attack on him, venting his frustration over Dragunov’s decision to select Axiom as an opponent rather than himself. Tonight, Ciampa and Gargano—collectively known as #DIY—will meet Frazer and Axiom in a high-stakes tag team clash, adding another layer of tension to the ongoing U.S. Title storyline.

Elsewhere on the card, the spotlight turns to The Last Time Is Now Tournament, which will determine John Cena’s final opponent at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13. Two first-round matches are scheduled: Bronson Reed of The Vision battles Carmelo Hayes, while Judgment Day’s Finn Balor collides with Penta. The stakes are clear—Reed or Hayes will advance to face GUNTHER in the quarterfinals this Monday on RAW, while the winner of Balor vs. Penta will meet Solo Sikoa in another quarterfinal bout that same night.

The women’s division also promises intrigue. After Rhea Ripley confronted AJ Lee backstage on RAW—a tense exchange stemming from Lee’s interference that cost Becky Lynch the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Maxxine Dupri—WWE has teased the reveal of the fifth and final members for both sides in the Women’s WarGames Match. Ripley, IYO SKY, Charlotte Flair, and Alexa Bliss await their mystery partner, while Asuka, Kairi Sane, Nia Jax, and Lash Legend prepare to unveil their own final teammate. The reveal is expected to take place ahead of Survivor Series: WarGames on November 29.

Meanwhile, the men’s WarGames Match continues to escalate. Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, and Roman Reigns will unite against Drew McIntyre, Logan Paul, The Vision, and Brock Lesnar. Monday’s RAW ended in chaos when Reigns and Lesnar were confirmed as the final additions to their respective teams, sparking an all-out brawl involving all ten competitors. WWE has hinted that tonight’s show will address the fallout from that explosive confrontation, setting the stage for one of the most anticipated WarGames matches in recent memory.
