Tyrus Says CM Punk Should Focus on Elevating Younger Talent Instead of Winning Titles – CM Punk is set for one of his biggest matches since returning to WWE, as he faces Jey Uso for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this Saturday at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City. However, not everyone believes Punk should be chasing titles at this stage of his career.
During a recent interview with TMZ Sports, former NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tyrus shared his thoughts on Punk potentially winning gold this weekend. According to Tyrus, the 47-year-old veteran should prioritize mentoring and elevating younger stars rather than adding another championship to his résumé.
“I think Punk is at a point in his career where titles really shouldn’t be on the radar. Really, he should be getting the Breakers ready. He should be getting the young guys ready,” Tyrus said. “I think there’s a point… again, nothing against Phil. I love Phil. He gave me a match, a title match on Monday Night Raw when at the time when none of the other top guys would. So I’m always thankful. He’s always a good dude. But I also think there comes a point when it’s the other guy’s time. And who better to get somebody over than… look what Jericho was doing in AEW. How many guys did he make over there? So I think there comes a point where it’s not about the titles.”
Tyrus’ comments reflect a growing sentiment among wrestling veterans and fans alike — that Punk’s legacy is already established, and his greatest contribution now could come from helping the next generation succeed.
Punk’s upcoming match against Jey Uso will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on October 25, and regardless of the outcome, it’s set to be a pivotal moment in his ongoing WWE run.
