Santos Escobar Reportedly Exiting WWE

Santos Escobar Reportedly Exiting WWE – Santos Escobar’s tenure with WWE appears to be officially coming to an end, as new reports indicate that his contract expires tonight, October 6. Unless a last-minute agreement is reached, the former leader of Legado Del Fantasma will become a free agent at midnight, free to negotiate or sign with other promotions immediately.

According to a report from PWInsider, WWE made efforts to retain Escobar by offering a new deal that included a pay raise. However, the 40-year-old star reportedly declined the offer, signaling his decision to move on. The report adds that Escobar’s current WWE contract expires at the end of the day, ending a run that saw him compete on both NXT and SmackDown.

There is already said to be significant interest in Escobar’s next move. Both AEW and CMLL are reportedly keeping an eye on him as a potential signing, and there is also speculation that he could make appearances on the independent scene. One possibility mentioned is a reunion with Elektra Lopez, a former Legado Del Fantasma member who was released from WWE earlier this year.

Escobar’s recent absence from television had already fueled questions about his status with the company. His last WWE appearance came at a Supershow event in Mexico on July 27, 2025, where he teamed with Angel and Berto in a six-man tag match against Mr. Iguana, Pagano, and Psycho Clown. The trio came up short in that bout, which now appears to have been his final WWE match.

Escobar first joined WWE in 2019 and quickly became one of the standout performers in NXT, capturing the Cruiserweight Championship and leading Legado Del Fantasma before moving to the main roster. His departure marks the end of a notable chapter for one of WWE’s most skilled and charismatic luchadores.

With his contract expiring and several major promotions reportedly interested, Santos Escobar could soon become one of the most in-demand free agents in professional wrestling.
