The former WWE Women’s World Champion has built an impressive record since winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2023, going on to hold multiple world titles and competing in two consecutive WrestleMania championship matches.
Speaking with TV Insider, Monroe reflected on the impact of Japanese wrestling on her career and WWE’s growing connection to Japanese talent. “It’s amazing because I remember starting my wrestling journey and coming across Japanese wrestling, specifically women’s wrestling. I was amazed at the costumes and presentation,” she said. “I thought, ‘what is this?’ You’ve seen Iyo and Giulia, and their presentation, which is the best I’ve ever seen.”
Monroe went on to make a bold statement about SKY’s position in the sport, placing her above every other active competitor. “I already knew this world, so seeing the rest of the world find out that Iyo Sky is the best wrestler in the world, not just women’s wrestling. I was like, ‘yeah, catch up,’” she stated.
The British star also expressed her excitement about potentially facing top Japanese talent in the future. “I’m excited to wrestle them and see what they can bring out of me. I’m just going to learn so much.” Reflecting on her own experiences wrestling in Japan, Monroe added, “I always had fun with everyone I wrestled in Japan. I think they had fun wrestling me too. I think for me in Japan I brought more character because I’m from England. I always had fun, and they had fun wrestling with me because we played with all those elements. I love it. That’s why I love WWE because it has this variety.”
IYO SKY recently competed for the vacant Women’s World Championship at WWE Wrestlepalooza in Indianapolis, where she was defeated by Stephanie Vaquer. Despite the loss, SKY has remained a featured name on WWE programming, teaming with Rhea Ripley in recent tag team matches, including an appearance at WWE Crown Jewel.
