Goldberg Reveals Broken Hand Suffered in Final Match Against GUNTHER – Goldberg has confirmed that he sustained a broken hand during his retirement match against GUNTHER, which took place at the Saturday Night’s Main Event special on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia. The WWE Hall of Famer shared details about the injury on his CarCast podcast, offering fans an update on his physical condition following what was promoted as his final match.
The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion explained that while many of his recurring injuries did not flare up during the bout, he didn’t walk away from the ring without damage.
“You can’t really tell, but my hand—I broke my hand at some point in that match,” Goldberg said. “I think today’s the first day I can see veins back in my hand. It’s not nearly as swollen as it was. That and… shoulder didn’t hurt, neck didn’t hurt. My knee isn’t worse.”
Despite the injury, Goldberg expressed relief that his longstanding shoulder, neck, and knee issues were unaffected during the contest. The match marked a historic end to his storied career, but in recent interviews, Goldberg has not hidden his disappointment over how his retirement was presented. Still, he continues to praise GUNTHER, calling him a worthy final opponent and a rising force in WWE.
As Goldberg begins his recovery and officially transitions into retirement, GUNTHER, the reigning World Heavyweight Champion, remains active at the top of WWE. He is currently preparing for a major title defense against CM Punk, set to headline one of the main events at the two-night SummerSlam event scheduled for August 2 and 3.
