AEW Moves Crew Member Lawsuit Involving Jon Moxley to Federal Court – All Elite Wrestling is seeking to transfer the ongoing legal case filed by former crew member Christopher Dispensa to federal court. The motion was officially filed on July 3, with AEW citing diversity of citizenship and a claimed lien of over $215,000 as grounds for the jurisdictional shift.
Dispensa’s lawsuit stems from a 2023 backstage incident in which he alleges he was shoved to the ground by Jon Moxley, resulting in serious injuries. The complaint, which includes claims of negligence, civil assault, and battery, states that Dispensa sustained “severe neck and shoulder injuries” during the altercation. According to court documents, those injuries later required cervical fusion surgery.
Though Dispensa was not a full-time employee of AEW at the time of the incident, he had worked behind the scenes for the company and has not returned to his role since late 2024. The suit, originally filed in state court, seeks damages in excess of $25,000.
AEW’s legal filing asserts that the case meets federal jurisdiction requirements due to the amount in controversy surpassing $75,000 and because the parties are from different states. The inclusion of the $215,000 lien related to medical expenses likely supports the argument that the case involves a significantly larger financial stake than the initial minimum claim.
As of now, neither AEW nor Moxley has publicly commented on the lawsuit. The case being moved to federal court could extend the timeline for resolution and introduce new procedural steps, but it also opens the door for broader legal scrutiny given the parties’ national profiles.
