WWE Updates Zelina Vega’s Ring Name – WWE has made an official change to one of SmackDown’s top female superstars. The company’s roster page now lists Zelina Vega simply as “Zelina,” marking a notable rebranding for the former WWE Women’s United States Champion. Fans first noticed the update earlier today, sharing screenshots of the altered profile across social media.
The decision to shorten her name continues a familiar WWE trend aimed at simplifying ring identities—examples include Austin Theory, Angel Garza, and Matt Riddle, all of whom temporarily dropped part of their names to create stronger, single-word branding. In Zelina’s case, the change comes immediately after a major on-screen shift.
During the October 10 episode of SmackDown, Zelina turned heel by interfering in a Last Man Standing Match between Aleister Black and Damian Priest, helping her real-life husband secure the win. The move officially aligned her with Black’s darker persona and distanced her from her former LWO ties. The simplified “Zelina” name reinforces this transformation, presenting her as a more mysterious and intimidating presence alongside Black.
Aleister Black’s own return to WWE earlier this year helped set the stage for this partnership. He re-emerged on the April 25 episode of SmackDown, bringing back his NXT-era name and quickly reigniting his dominance with a victory over The Miz. Zelina’s involvement in his current storyline marks the first time the couple has worked together on-screen in WWE.
This rebranding follows a breakout year for Zelina. After being drafted to SmackDown in January, she captured her first singles title by defeating Chelsea Green for the newly introduced WWE Women’s United States Championship on April 25. She held the title for 63 days before losing it to Giulia on June 27.
While her championship pursuit has paused, Zelina’s new heel persona and alliance with Aleister Black suggest a renewed focus and direction as WWE continues to evolve her character heading into the final months of 2025.
