WWE Bans On-Air References to Iran-Israel Crisis on RAW – As WWE prepares for Night of Champions this Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, a new report reveals that talent and production staff were instructed not to mention the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict during recent broadcasts.
According to Wrestling Observer, WWE issued a firm internal directive ahead of the June 23 RAW episode, banning any mention of the geopolitical situation during the show. The decision comes amid escalating tensions in the region, which have raised concerns about international travel and safety ahead of the company’s trip to the Kingdom.
“They weren’t allowed [to reference the Iran-Israel crisis],” said Dave Meltzer. “They just were not allowed to mention anything. That’s probably one of the reasons why they weren’t allowed to address it because I don’t think they wanted those questions being asked as far as everything.”
While WWE has moved forward with plans for both SmackDown and Night of Champions in Riyadh, the directive reflects the sensitivity of the situation. Meltzer noted that although some sources argue Saudi Arabia remains relatively stable, concerns were elevated earlier in the week due to airspace restrictions and potential travel disruptions. “The flying was dangerous today, there’s a ceasefire, but that came later in the day,” he said.
WWE talent and production staff are scheduled to travel midweek on a charter flight to Riyadh. As of now, no official changes have been made to the schedule, and Night of Champions is set to air live on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
