CM Punk Issues Public Apology in Saudi Arabia for Infamous 2020 Tweet – During the WWE Night of Champions Kickoff Show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, CM Punk publicly addressed a long-standing controversy from 2020, offering a heartfelt apology to both The Miz and the people of Saudi Arabia. The moment marked Punk’s first public comment on the matter while on Saudi soil.
The controversy stems from a now-deleted tweet Punk posted in 2020 during a heated exchange with The Miz. At the time, Punk responded to a jab with a tweet that read, “Go s*ck a blood money-covered d**k in Saudi Arabia, you f**king dork.” The tweet drew backlash and led many to believe Punk would never wrestle in the country.
Now, just hours before his Undisputed WWE Championship match against John Cena, Punk directly confronted the issue during the live broadcast.
“Legitimately had nothing to do with Saudi Arabia. I woke up crabby and I wrote a mean tweet to The Miz and I apologised to The Miz… and I sincerely apologise to all of Saudi Arabia. I’m not perfect by any means, sometimes as human beings we screw up. The beautiful thing is everything is a lesson learned, and now here I am and you’ve invited me into your country and I’m grateful to be here. Thank you very much,” Punk said.
The apology drew applause from fans in attendance and appeared to close the chapter on one of the most controversial social media moments of Punk’s career.
With the issue addressed, Punk now turns his attention to his high-stakes match against John Cena at Night of Champions.
