AEW Changed Plans for Bryan Danielson’s Final Run, Retirement Update – The journey to AEW All In: London 2024 for Bryan Danielson has been in the works since at least the spring of this year. However, in the months leading up to the event, Danielson faced some unexpected medical challenges.
According to Fightful, Danielson was cleared by doctors to compete at AEW All In: London 2024, as well as in a match against Jeff Jarrett on AEW television. However, he was not medically cleared to participate in the AEW Blood & Guts 2024 “Team AEW vs. The Elite” match, which highlighted the company’s growing awareness of Danielson’s physical limitations as his career winds down.
As a result, Danielson’s schedule has been more limited than originally planned, with him wrestling only one match in the last month-and-a-half, spanning the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament and AEW All In: London 2024. Notably, Danielson has been operating without an active AEW contract for the past three weeks, yet he has continued to fulfill his responsibilities, including his role on the AEW Disciplinary Committee, under the terms of his existing talent deal.
AEW sources indicate that the company expects to negotiate a new agreement with Danielson once his current run concludes. Tony Khan, AEW’s president, reportedly has immense trust in Danielson, viewing him as selfless and deeply committed to the growth of both the company and its roster.
Throughout his AEW tenure, Danielson has consistently lobbied against becoming a champion, a stance similar to that of fellow wrestling legend Sting. In fact, Danielson has often pushed to lose the majority of his matches, sometimes expressing regret when he did secure a victory.
There has been no indication that Danielson is preparing to say his goodbyes to AEW, but even if he retires from in-ring competition after AEW All In: London 2024, it is expected that he will remain with the company in some capacity.
Bryan Danielson is set to put his career on the line in the main event of AEW All In: London 2024, where he will challenge Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship. The event will take place on Saturday, August 25, at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
