CJ Perry Announces Her Time with AEW Has Ended – CJ Perry, who has been notably absent from AEW programming in recent months, confirmed that her time with the promotion has concluded. In an interview with USA Today’s Jordan Mendoza at the 2024 ESPY Awards, Perry discussed her current status and future aspirations.
Perry mentioned that her tenure with AEW has ended, stating, “[My] time with them has just finished.” Despite this departure, Perry remains open to new opportunities and is looking to sign with another organization. Her focus is on continuing her work as a manager, drawing inspiration from Paul Heyman in her approach to cultivating and developing wrestling talent. She said, “I’m really focused on finding talent and cultivating them and helping them become the best wrestler, champion possible. I guess you could say I want to be the Paul Heyman.”
— UPDATE —
Fightful Select is reporting more details about Perry’s exit, which apparently happened a few months ago. AEW confirmed to Fightful that Perry was actually part of the group of releases in April, although hers was not publicly announced at the time.
According to the report, Perry was originally on a per-appearance deal, but she’d signed a contract sometime after that. It was noted that Perry was not expected to return to the company, with injuries to her and her on-air clients hampering things.
——
Perry debuted in AEW at the All Out 2023 event and was involved in a storyline with her then-husband, Miro. She later aligned with Andrade El Idolo, leading to a feud with Miro. Perry turned on Andrade during his match against Miro at AEW Worlds End on December 30. Since then, she has been absent from AEW programming, partly due to a MRSA infection that hospitalized her in December and required continued treatment into January.
Currently, Perry is not listed on AEW’s official roster, marking the end of her run with the company. Fans and industry watchers will be keen to see where she lands next and how she will continue her career as a wrestling manager. More updates will be provided as information becomes available.
