According to backstage reports, WWE did not initially intend for Trick Williams to lose the championship so soon after debuting the custom white-fur United States title on the July 10 episode of SmackDown. The design and rollout of the title were completed without any expectation that it would change hands within just a few weeks.

The decision to have Corbin win the championship reportedly came together late, with several individuals backstage surprised by the shift in direction. Despite the sudden change, the title switch became one of the notable moments from the SummerSlam event.

Following the loss, Trick Williams addressed his future during an interview with ESPN Houston. He made it clear that he is focused on what comes next, although his direction has not yet been finalized.

“Look, man. I got some retribution to do. And what does that look like? I’m not sure yet. Do I want the United States Championship? Maybe. Do I want something different? I had an encounter with CM Punk the night before, so I’m not sure exactly where I’m going to set my attention.”

Williams also spoke about the possibility of facing CM Punk, showing respect for the veteran while expressing interest in a potential match.

“I mean, nothing but respect for CM Punk. He’s a GOAT, and anytime you can share the ring with somebody who’s done legendary things and had legendary moments, you want to stand next to legends as much as possible. So, yeah, I would love that match with CM Punk.”
