Three Title Matches Announced For WWE Night of Champions

The June 19 episode of WWE SmackDown brought major developments for Night of Champions, as three title matches were officially announced following a chaotic main event segment.

Triple Threat Title Match Set For Night Of Champions

Cody Rhodes will defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn and Gunther in a triple threat match next weekend.

The decision came after a controversial finish to Friday’s title match. Zayn, serving as special guest referee, delivered a fast three-count that allowed Rhodes to retain against Gunther. The situation escalated further when Rhodes demanded the match be restarted. During the restart, Zayn interfered again, striking Gunther with a Helluva Kick, which resulted in a disqualification.

Moments later, tensions boiled over once more as Zayn attacked Rhodes with the championship belt, leaving both men down in the ring. Backstage, Gunther continued to protest the outcome, while Rhodes offered to defend the title against both competitors. Nick Aldis then made the triple threat match official for Night of Champions.

United States Title And Women’s Title Matches Confirmed

Two additional championship matches were also announced for the event.

Trick Williams will defend the United States Championship against Ricky Saints. Saints earned the opportunity by defeating Carmelo Hayes on SmackDown, capitalizing after Hayes was sent into an exposed turnbuckle.

On the women’s side, Tiffany Stratton is set to defend the Women’s United States Championship against Jade Cargill. The match was made official after Cargill issued a challenge following their recent altercation, which Stratton later accepted during the show.

With three title bouts now confirmed, Night of Champions is shaping up to be a pivotal event, especially with the Undisputed WWE Championship picture becoming increasingly complicated after Friday’s events.
