During the June 5 episode of WWE SmackDown, it was officially announced that Rhodes will defend his title against Gunther in a rematch scheduled for the June 19 episode. The show will take place in Kansas City, Missouri, and this time the bout will include a stipulation chosen by Gunther, which he is expected to reveal on next week’s SmackDown.

The rematch stems from their recent encounter at Clash in Italy, where Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship under disputed circumstances. During the match, the referee failed to notice that Gunther’s foot was on the bottom rope, a detail that would have stopped the count. The oversight played a key role in the finish and immediately fueled controversy.
Gunther addressed the situation at the start of SmackDown, making his frustrations clear and demanding a fair resolution. Rhodes responded by agreeing to grant him another title opportunity without delay, setting the stage for their next showdown.
The segment also featured Sami Zayn, who got involved and hinted at his own interest in the championship picture. Despite his presence, the June 19 match is currently scheduled as a one-on-one contest between Rhodes and Gunther.
Looking ahead, SmackDown has three more episodes remaining before WWE heads to Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, June 27. The June 26 episode of SmackDown will be taped in advance from London, England, adding further build toward the upcoming Premium Live Event.
