Joe Hendry joined Chris Van Vliet on Insight for a wide‑ranging conversation about his viral entrance songs, his creative process, his championship goals, and the match with John Cena that never happened. Hendry also dropped a major exclusive regarding his future in WWE music.
Joe Hendry Reveals He Recorded a Full Album With WWE Music
When Van Vliet asked where Hendry actually records his songs, he delivered a genuine scoop:
“Actually, I could drop an exclusive right here for people. Because this is actually very relevant. So this is an exclusive. I haven’t told anyone anywhere, but I have recorded an album with WWE Music, and it’s going to drop this summer.”
Hendry explained that most of the album was recorded in New York at WWE Studios, but he has since replicated the entire setup at home so he can produce new songs quickly.
“We recorded most of that in New York at the WWE Studios. So what I’ve done now is the microphones that we have there, I have basically replicated the setup back home now, so I don’t need to fly to New York to do it.”
This allows Hendry to create topical songs at the speed fans have come to expect.
“That’s one of the things that makes these songs work, is because they’re fast and they’re topical… we were able to just get it done that week, because we could send files back and forth. But yes, there is an album coming out.”
When asked whether the album includes previously heard songs or entirely new material, Hendry kept it simple:
“Well, I will say, they are all original songs. I won’t say any more than that; they are all original songs.”
Hendry Talks Championship Aspirations
Van Vliet pointed out that Hendry has already been both TNA World Champion and NXT Champion, and asked what title he wants next. Hendry said his mindset has changed over the years.
“That’s such a tough question to answer, because you have different focuses at different points… I used to be like, I have to sign with WWE. I have to be there by this year, and I have to do that.”
He explained that constantly chasing milestones became exhausting, and everything changed during a show in Newcastle, England.
“I remember the audience just went nuts… I thought, You know what? If this is as big as it gets, that’s cool. This is my job. I’m committed. I am a pro wrestler.”
That shift in perspective led to the biggest success of his career.
“When I shifted my focus to delivering value for the fans, rather than I want this belt… that’s when things really took off.”
Still, Hendry didn’t hide the next title he has his eye on:
“That said, Intercontinental Championship, please.”
Why the John Cena Match Never Happened
Joe Hendry has openly said he wanted a match with John Cena before Cena retired. Van Vliet asked how close it ever came to happening.
Hendry took full responsibility:
“Ultimately, I have to put the responsibility on myself. I didn’t wrestle John Cena because I didn’t do enough to make me an obvious choice to wrestle John Cena.”
He said the realization motivated him to push harder in NXT.
“I think that gave me a reminder that you just can’t take progress for granted. You have to work for everything.”
Hendry believes the missed opportunity made him better.
“I look back and go, yeah, maybe could have been stronger in this area… but I won’t let that happen again. The next thing I want to put out there, I’ll make sure I get it.”
