Tony Khan Provides Update on AEW TBS Title Situation

Tony Khan has provided an update on the AEW TBS Championship picture following a major change involving Willow Nightingale.

On Wednesday, Willow Nightingale revealed that she is dealing with an injury that will prevent her from competing at AEW Double or Nothing. She had originally been scheduled to face Alex Windsor in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. Along with the announcement, Nightingale also confirmed that she has relinquished the AEW TBS Championship.

Speaking during the Double or Nothing media call, Tony Khan told Samantha Schipman of Powerbomb Shells that the company plans to address the TBS Title situation following the pay-per-view. While no immediate replacement champion or match has been confirmed, Khan made it clear that a decision is expected soon after the event.

Changes have already been made to the tournament lineup. The originally scheduled Nightingale vs. Windsor match has been removed from the Double or Nothing card. In its place, AEW has shifted Mina Shirakawa vs. Athena onto the pay-per-view.

As for Alex Windsor, she will still compete in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament, but against a yet-to-be-named wild card entrant. That match will now take place at a later date rather than at Double or Nothing.

The introduction of a wild card adds another layer of uncertainty to the tournament, while the status of the TBS Championship remains unresolved heading out of the event. All eyes will now be on AEW’s post-pay-per-view plans to determine how the title picture is reshaped in Nightingale’s absence.
