WWE Pulls AAA Stars Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana from Lucha Libre en Chihuahua Event – WWE’s influence in the Lucha Libre market continues to grow following its acquisition of AAA earlier this year. As WWE’s integration with the storied Mexican promotion deepens, talent crossover and scheduling changes are starting to impact independent Lucha events.
Lucha Libre en Chihuahua announced on Friday that two of its most recognizable stars—Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana—have been pulled from their scheduled appearance at the August 2 event. According to a public statement from the promotion, the two were “called by WWE” for appearances tied to SmackDown and SummerSlam 2025, both taking place that weekend in New Jersey.
The full statement reads:
Wrestlers Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana will not show up tomorrow because they were called by WWE for the SmackDown and SummerSlam events, taking the place of Psycho, LA PARK.
We hope for your understanding, since they are causes unrelated to our company that always wants to bring you the best show, and we give this notice as a sign of respect to all our Chihuahua fans. It will be a great event. We wait for you tomorrow, and as always, wrestling is best enjoyed live.”
This move aligns with WWE’s recent strategy of deploying talent across AAA events and using its promotional platform to elevate crossover appeal. One of the marquee examples of this collaboration is the AAA Mega Championship match at TripleMania XXXIII later this month, which will see WWE Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio defend the title in a four-way against Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano (Chad Gable), and El Hijo del Vikingo.
The decision to pull Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana—two staples of the AAA roster—highlights WWE’s increasing control over booking decisions, even for talent working outside its core shows. Their likely presence at SmackDown on August 1 and/or SummerSlam on August 3 could hint at further cross-promotional storytelling or the beginning of WWE’s broader plans for Lucha representation on their main programming.
While it remains unclear what role Psycho Clown and Mr. Iguana will play in WWE’s events, their removal from a regional Lucha card for WWE commitments underscores how rapidly WWE’s global expansion is shifting the Lucha Libre landscape.
