CM Punk Unloads Verbal Assault on John Cena – On the June 13 episode of WWE SmackDown, tensions between CM Punk and John Cena exploded in a blistering segment that laid the foundation for their highly anticipated Undisputed WWE Championship match at Night of Champions on June 28.
Earlier in the night, Cena was attacked by R-Truth, setting the tone for what would come. Enraged, Cena stormed to the ring and addressed the ambush. “There’s a level of disrespect I can tolerate. R-Truth, you crossed some lines,” he snapped. The crowd, however, chanted for Truth—adding insult to injury. Cena called Truth out for a fight, but instead, CM Punk emerged.
Perched on the turnbuckles, Punk began his scathing verbal takedown. “Did I hear you talk about disrespect?” he asked. “These people are tired of being disrespected. And you? You haven’t even begun to understand the levels of disrespect we’re capable of.” Punk offered Cena what he sarcastically framed as a “way out,” likening himself to Obi-Wan Kenobi trying to reach the Darth Vader inside John Cena. He implored Cena to accept the adoration of fans and “give them a happy ending.”
Cena coldly refused. “Why would I waste my time? These people don’t matter. This place doesn’t matter. Basketball doesn’t matter. Horse racing doesn’t matter. This title is all that matters,” he declared, drawing visible contempt from Punk.
Punk then delivered a thunderous series of rebuttals: “Let the record reflect that Lexington and I gave you an out. You tell a strong man a lie to piss him off. You tell a weak man the truth, that offends him.” He claimed Cena never could beat him at his best and likened Cena’s current run to a recycled version of his own 2011 storyline. “You sound like CM Punk,” he said mockingly. “You’re stealing my best material.”
The tirade escalated as Punk promised to “make your retirement tour watchable,” even swearing he would follow Cena to Mars or hell to “kick your ass.” He drew comparisons between himself and Cena, both self-proclaimed GOATs, but noted he had beaten Cena in both of their hometowns. He vowed to “sacrifice the GOAT to the gods of wrestling,” invoking names like Terry Funk, Harley Race, Bret Hart, and Eddie Guerrero as the true icons of the sport.
“I see through you, John. I always have,” Punk concluded before leaving the ring.
As Cena processed the verbal beatdown, R-Truth ambushed him from behind and applied Cena’s own STF. Punk added insult to injury with a final remark: “The truth hurts.” Cena eventually escaped and limped up the ramp, visibly shaken.
A match between Truth and Cena was later confirmed for next week by GM Nick Aldis.
