WWE to Tape Upcoming SmackDown Episode – WWE has been pre-recording more episodes of RAW and SmackDown in recent months, typically to accommodate international travel schedules. However, for the SmackDown roster this month, the decision is motivated by the Thanksgiving holiday. WWE plans to tape the November 29 episode of SmackDown a week early, on November 22, at the show in Salt Lake City. This adjustment will give talent and crew the entire day off on Thanksgiving, sparing them from the usual rush to fly out that evening or early Friday morning.
Dave Meltzer discussed the decision on Wrestling Observer Radio, highlighting the significance of this schedule shift. Meltzer explained, “The November 22 SmackDown in Salt Lake City, they’re going to be taping two shows…The day after Thanksgiving, this would be, I think, the first time they’ve ever done this. They are not going to run a taping that night, so all the talent can spend Thanksgiving night with their families.”
In prior years, while WWE typically avoided taping shows on Thanksgiving itself, they would still require talent and crew to travel that evening or early Friday to make it to the next night’s show. Meltzer pointed out that, for years, wrestlers and staff often had to cut holiday time short to prepare for Friday’s taping. This new approach allows WWE’s roster and production teams to enjoy a full holiday with family and avoid the logistical strains of immediate travel, reflecting a more flexible approach under WWE’s current leadership.
