AEW President and Ring of Honor owner Tony Khan pushed back against online criticism of ROH on October 6, calling out a fan for selectively using an older show to label the current product a disaster.
Khan acquired Ring of Honor in March 2022, and over four years later, the promotion continues to operate with dedicated HonorClub television tapings, YouTube broadcasts, and pay-per-view events alongside featured AEW talent. However, the product has faced periodic criticism from fans online regarding its direction.
The exchange began when an X user called current ROH television “an absolute disaster” while highlighting Cagematch user ratings from a July 31 episode of ROH on HonorClub TV.
Khan responded directly to the post, arguing that judging the promotion’s current state based on a broadcast from several months ago was disingenuous:
““These days”? It’s October. This tv was in July. Since then, there was an excellent ROH Death Before Dishonor ppv in August. It was widely praised. There was free ROH TV on YouTube last night with tremendous action. You handpicked a tv from months ago and called it “these days.””
Khan highlighted August’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view as well as recent free weekly broadcasts on YouTube as stronger representations of ROH’s current quality.

Tony Khan jumping into X arguments to defend Ring of Honor isn’t new, but pointing to August pay-per-views and free YouTube shows doesn’t erase the fundamental issue with ROH under AEW ownership. When your weekly brand lacks a standalone television deal and functions mostly as dark matches recorded before or after Dynamite, fans are naturally going to feel like the show lacks direction. Defending individual show ratings misses the bigger point: ROH needs a distinct identity, not just online clapbacks from its owner.
