WWE Post-WrestleMania 42 Title Picture and Roster Shakeup

WWE releases begin, notable names in post‑WrestleMania shake‑up

Fatu’s attack on Roman Reigns closed the April 27 Raw. Reigns took the hit, stood up, and accepted the Backlash match for May 9 in Tampa. That exchange is the clearest indicator of where Raw is heading now that https://1xbet.ie/en  has the Backlash card live and the odds already priced for Tampa, with Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion eight days removed from beating CM Punk at Allegiant Stadium and Fatu as the man who has spent three months becoming the most dangerous presence on the roster. Twenty-five roster cuts came five days before that segment aired.

Six Title Changes and the Thread That Did Not Snap

WrestleMania 42 produced six championship changes across both nights in Las Vegas. Cody Rhodes retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton on Night 1. Orton hit a Punt Kick after the final bell. Rhodes has not appeared on television since. His Backlash status is the biggest open question across both shows. Reigns took the World Heavyweight title from CM Punk in the Night 2 main event, a result confirmed in the official WWE WrestleMania 42 results that completed a program running from the January Royal Rumble through Vegas. Punk’s next move has not been announced.

Penta’s ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship was the most discussed contest of the weekend, with five other competitors including Je’Von Evans and Rey Mysterio. Oba Femi beat Brock Lesnar on Night 2. Lesnar left his boots in the ring after the final bell, a retirement gesture after a 25-year run. Trick Williams beat Sami Zayn for the United States title later that night in a match Lil Yachty walked him to the ring for. Rhea Ripley took the Women’s title from Jade Cargill. Paige, back in WWE after signing days before the event, won the Women’s Tag Team titles alongside Brie Bella after replacing the injured Nikki.

April 24 and the Names That Left

Aleister Black was released on April 24. So was his wife, Zelina Vega. Black had returned from AEW a year earlier and never found meaningful traction in his second run despite a distinctive character. The Wyatt Sicks went out as a group: Uncle Howdy, Nikki Cross, Erick Rowan, Joe Gacy, and Dexter Lumis all departed the same day. Kairi Sane was among the main roster names cut, as were Motor City Machine Guns, who had won the tag titles in just their second week after signing in 2024.

The total came to roughly 25 departures spanning main roster, NXT, and developmental. Several of those names had been part of programs that had not paid off before the cuts landed, and the faction space Wyatt Sicks occupied on Raw is now open heading into the Money in the Bank build in New Orleans.

Backlash Card on May 9 in Tampa

Reigns defends the World Heavyweight Championship against Fatu on May 9 in Tampa. Seth Rollins went on Raw and challenged Bron Breakker directly, with Breakker having returned from hernia surgery at WrestleMania. The Asuka vs IYO SKY match WWE pulled from the WrestleMania 42 card is expected to land at Backlash instead.

Femi beat Lesnar in under five minutes and walked out with no challenger named. Money in the Bank is the obvious next platform. Rhodes’ orbital injury from the Orton punt means his status is day-to-day, and the Undisputed title picture at Backlash depends entirely on that update.
