Becky Lynch believes WWE needs to take steps to rebuild how fans view women in the main event scene, pointing to a lack of consistent positioning in recent years.
Speaking on Insight with Chris Van Vliet ahead of WrestleMania 42, Lynch addressed the absence of women headlining WrestleMania since WrestleMania 37 night one, when Bianca Belair and Sasha Banks closed the show.
“I just want to tell good stories, have good matches. Want to make sure that the business is better when I leave it than how I found it. I know that what I have done is prove that women could be the biggest stars in this company, and they are and can be. I think sometimes we need to fight to make sure we’re positioned as such, because you can be a huge name, but if you’re not positioned in the main event. It’s very easy when we condition the audience, this person’s the main event, this person’s the main event, this person’s the main event, we see them as the main event. When we don’t condition the audience, then it becomes a little bit harder, and for the last few years, I think we’ve, for the most part, those main events have gone to two, maybe three, four dudes constantly. I think we need to change that again. I think we need to. I don’t know what that means, whether that means fighting a bit more, whether it’s me or somebody else,” Lynch said.
Lynch emphasized that perception plays a key role in how audiences view top stars. Without consistent main event placement, even major names can struggle to be seen at that level.
She previously made history at WrestleMania 35, where she headlined alongside Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey in the first women’s WrestleMania main event. Lynch left that match holding both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships.
At WrestleMania 42, Lynch is scheduled to face AJ Lee for the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship on April 18. The match will mark her 10th WrestleMania appearance.
Her comments highlight ongoing discussions about representation at the top of WWE cards and the importance of consistent booking when it comes to maintaining women as main event-level stars.
