Tomohiro Ishii Sidelined With Shoulder Injury – New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that “The Stone Pitbull”, Tomohiro Ishii, has suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future. The news was confirmed through an official statement published on NJPW’s website earlier this week.
According to the update, Ishii sustained a dislocated right acromioclavicular joint during the taping of the October 25 episode of AEW Collision, which was filmed a few days earlier at the Boeing Center at TechPort in San Antonio, Texas. The injury reportedly occurred during a match against PAC of The Death Riders, with sources indicating it is likely a shoulder dislocation sustained mid-match.
NJPW issued an apology to fans awaiting Ishii’s upcoming appearances, confirming that his return date remains undetermined. The promotion wrote (translated from Japanese):
“Tomohiro Ishii will be absent from future New Japan Pro-Wrestling events due to a dislocation of his right acromioclavicular joint sustained at the AEW San Antonio event in the United States on October 22 (local time). His return date has yet to be determined. We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking forward to Ishii’s match. Thank you for your understanding.”
Ishii’s absence marks another setback for All Elite Wrestling and Ring of Honor’s shared roster depth. The veteran joins a growing list of AEW stars currently sidelined with injuries, including Kota Ibushi, Brian Cage, Penelope Ford, Thunder Rosa, Swerve Strickland, Hologram, and Nick Wayne, among others.
A cornerstone of NJPW’s hard-hitting style, Ishii has also been an active member of The Conglomeration faction across AEW and ROH. Known for his durability and intense in-ring performances, the 48-year-old has battled through injuries throughout his career. However, this recent setback will temporarily halt his momentum just as he was gaining renewed visibility in the United States.
No timeline has been given for Ishii’s recovery, but NJPW officials have expressed optimism about his eventual return once medically cleared.
