Jim Cornette Blasts Vince Russo Over Career, Clown Promotion, And Jealousy Claims

Jim Cornette Blasts Vince Russo Over Career, Clown Promotion, And Jealousy Claims – Jim Cornette delivered a lengthy and scathing response to Vince Russo on the latest episode of Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru, following Russo’s recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s show. During that interview, Russo referred to Cornette as a “goof” and suggested Cornette was jealous of him, comments that prompted Cornette to address Russo’s current career standing, past behavior, and latest business venture.

The discussion was introduced by co-host Brian Last, who noted that Russo had taken inconsistent public positions on Cornette, offering praise in one interview before turning hostile in another. Cornette said this pattern was deliberate and aimed at provoking a reaction for attention.

“I have never and don’t intend to listen to that voice, except if I’m tied to a chair and being interrogated,” Cornette said. “I only mock his general public activities and statements about other people… when they are appropriate.”

Cornette argued that Russo’s alternating praise and insults were attempts to bait him into responding publicly. “He was saying a bunch of nice things about me because he wanted me to respond,” Cornette said. “Then he goes on a show a week later and calls me a fucking idiot because he’s mad.”

A major focus of Cornette’s criticism centered on Russo’s latest role with an independent promotion associated with Insane Clown Posse, which features performers working under clown personas. Cornette mocked both the concept and Russo’s position within the promotion.

“He is a 65-year-old man that’s been begging for a job at his former glory business of 30 years ago,” Cornette said. “That is now resorted to working for a promotion run by literal clowns.”

Last added that Russo holds the title of “Cinematic Director,” which Cornette used to further underline what he described as Russo’s professional decline. “He’s falling down the totem hole,” Cornette said. “How much farther down can you fall before it’s not a pole, but a goddamn hole?”

Cornette rejected Russo’s claim that jealousy was at the root of their long-running issues, contrasting their current situations. Cornette reiterated that he chose to step away from working for wrestling companies years ago, while Russo continues seeking opportunities. “I’m done working for anybody. I’m doing my own thing,” Cornette said, “and yet he is still so desperately needing money or attention.”

The conversation also revisited their history in WWE and TNA, with Last pointing out that Russo had undermined Cornette behind the scenes while publicly presenting himself as cooperative. Cornette said his issues with Russo began almost immediately upon working together and were never about booking power.

Cornette dismissed Russo’s suggestion of a charity debate entirely, saying he had no interest in giving Russo publicity or revenue. “If you want me to give you some publicity, do something spectacularly stupid and funny,” Cornette said. “Otherwise, I’ll keep doing what I do best.”

Cornette concluded by stating that Russo’s reputation is based almost entirely on a brief period during the Attitude Era. “Two years, 30 years ago, and everything since has been downhill,” Cornette said.
