SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced McIntyre’s suspension at the conclusion of Friday’s broadcast. Earlier in the night, the show opened with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes celebrating his successful title defense over McIntyre at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The celebration was interrupted by Aleister Black and Zelina Vega, with Black declaring he was ready for a new challenge. After Vega slapped Rhodes, Aldis immediately booked a non-title main event between Rhodes and Black.
The match proved to be evenly contested until McIntyre made a surprise appearance. As referee Dan Engler counted both competitors out, McIntyre stormed into the ring and delivered a devastating Claymore kick to the official, forcing a no-contest.
The situation quickly spiraled into chaos as McIntyre and Rhodes traded blows. Black soon joined the fight, turning it into a two-on-one assault on the WWE Champion. The crowd erupted when Damian Priest made his unexpected return, attacking both McIntyre and Black to help Rhodes. Priest had been absent from television since losing a Last Man Standing Match to Black last month.
As the chaos continued, Nick Aldis appeared on the stage and, visibly frustrated by McIntyre’s actions, announced that McIntyre was suspended indefinitely.
While the suspension serves as part of the storyline, sources confirm that McIntyre’s hiatus is to accommodate his participation in an upcoming film project. No details have been released yet regarding the movie or McIntyre’s expected return date to WWE programming.
