More on WWE Big Plans For Future Wrestlepalooza Events – WWE is preparing to launch its newest premium live event, Wrestlepalooza, this Saturday.

According to Fightful Select, the company sees this as the start of what will become a cornerstone annual show, with ambitions that go beyond simply competing with AEW All Out, which takes place the same weekend. Wrestlepalooza will also carry added weight as the first WWE event to air on ESPN.

The origins of Wrestlepalooza tie back to WWE’s earlier plans to expand the WrestleMania brand itself. At one point, WWE considered producing two WrestleManias in a single year, with Saudi Arabia pushing for what was described as a “Super WrestleMania.” However, Saudi officials reportedly made it clear they only wanted to host the official WrestleMania, not a secondary version. This led WWE to shift gears, creating Wrestlepalooza as a standalone event that could serve as a major tentpole, especially during years when WrestleMania is held outside North America.

While the name is new to WWE, Wrestlepalooza carries history in wrestling. ECW ran shows under the name until 2000, and in more recent years, the trademark was owned by First Wrestling. A WWE source noted that the decision to revive the name likely came from WWE President Nick Khan, who grew up as an ECW fan.

The debut card is shaping up to be one of WWE’s most stacked non-WrestleMania lineups in years. Cody Rhodes will defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre, John Cena will square off with Brock Lesnar, and the vacant Women’s World Championship will be decided between IYO SKY and Stephanie Vaquer. In addition, CM Punk will team with AJ Lee against World Champion Seth Rollins and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch.

With ESPN’s backing and WWE’s long-term vision, Wrestlepalooza is being positioned not just as a one-off experiment, but as a fixture of WWE’s annual calendar moving forward.
