Doug Basham Reportedly in Talks to Return as WWE Guest Trainer – PWInsider is reporting that there have been internal discussions about former WWE Superstar Doug Basham returning to the company in a behind-the-scenes role. Specifically, the idea being floated is for Basham to serve as a guest trainer at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
Basham has been active in the wrestling world in recent years, most notably training talent at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE’s former developmental territory. His work there has extended beyond wrestling, as he recently assisted in training actress Emily Bett Rickards for her role in the upcoming wrestling-themed movie Queen of the Ring.
Fans of the Ruthless Aggression Era will recall Doug Basham as one-half of The Basham Brothers alongside The Damaja, Danny Basham. The pair were a dominant force in OVW, capturing the Southern Tag Team Titles multiple times before making their WWE debut on SmackDown in 2003. They were paired with manager Shaniqua and went on to become two-time WWE Tag Team Champions.
Later in their WWE run, the Bashams played a significant supporting role during JBL’s lengthy WWE Championship reign, serving as the “Co-Secretaries of Defense” in his Cabinet faction.
While nothing is confirmed, the possibility of Basham returning as a guest trainer would align with WWE’s efforts to bolster its developmental system with veterans who have both in-ring experience and a history of training talent. His familiarity with the WWE system and time in OVW could make him a valuable asset to the current crop of Performance Center recruits.
