Tony Khan Addresses AEW Dynasty Ending Backlash – The ending of AEW Dynasty’s main event between Jon Moxley and Swerve Strickland has sparked significant discussion across social media, with fans voicing frustration over how the AEW World Championship match concluded. During the post-show media scrum, AEW President Tony Khan addressed the criticism and explained his perspective on the decision to reintroduce the Young Bucks during the final moments of the match.
The match between Moxley and Strickland was the headliner of Sunday’s pay-per-view and featured multiple interruptions from various factions, including The Death Riders, Hangman Page, and The Opps. However, it was the surprise return of Matt and Nick Jackson—absent from AEW television for nearly six months—that had the most lasting impact. The Young Bucks delivered a BTE Trigger to Strickland, paving the way for Moxley to retain the AEW World Title.
When asked if he ever considers changing match finishes due to fan sentiment or in-the-moment reactions, Khan responded:
“Absolutely, I take that into consideration and I think you want the fans. We had a lot of great moments for the fans tonight. And Swerve was, no offense, Renee, the more popular man in the house tonight. The fans really were behind Swerve in the arena. You had two of AEW’s greatest world champions having this match. And obviously the return of the Young Bucks spoiled what was a really great world championship match on a night where there were a lot of fan favorite moments… that was obviously not necessarily the outcome that a lot of people were hoping for.”
Despite the backlash, Khan stood firm on the decision, emphasizing Moxley’s longstanding significance to AEW.
“On the other hand, I do think that Jon Moxley has been, from the very beginning of AEW, one of the most important figures from the very first pay-per-view we ever did. Now this creates a lot of intrigue. To have the Young Bucks come back, you know, I think is important to remember is we have not seen the Young Bucks in almost six months in AEW. From the very beginning of AEW, the Young Bucks have been instrumental in the launch of the company. They’re founding fathers of this company.”
Khan said the Young Bucks’ return sets the stage for an “intriguing situation” moving forward and confirmed that this storyline will continue to unfold on AEW programming. He added that while the Bucks’ interference changed the outcome, it hasn’t affected Swerve’s popularity in the eyes of AEW fans.
