The New Day Capture WWE World Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 41 – In the second match of WrestleMania 41 Saturday, The New Day emerged victorious over the War Raiders to become the new WWE World Tag Team Champions—though not without a dose of controversy.
The match kicked off with chaos, as Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods worked together to isolate Erik early. Despite Erik’s strength and resilience, frequent tags and creative double-team maneuvers from The New Day kept the War Raiders at bay for much of the contest.
The momentum shifted when Ivar entered and began unleashing his power and agility, including a handspring double back elbow and a top-rope moonsault that nearly secured the victory. But Woods broke up the pin with a timely elbow drop.
As the action reached its peak, all four men exchanged high-impact moves. Erik nearly ended it with a pair of stiff knees, while Ivar delivered his signature Spin Kick of Doom. However, the War Raiders’ attempt at their finishing move, War Machine, was thwarted by Kofi pulling Ivar off the ropes behind the referee’s back.
Despite not being the legal man, Woods tagged in, and The New Day executed their backbreaker-double stomp combo. Kofi held Ivar’s leg from outside the ring, preventing a break-up, while Woods scored the pin on Erik—though he wasn’t the legal competitor.
The referee counted the three, awarding The New Day the WWE World Tag Team Championships in controversial fashion. The questionable finish may lead to further developments in the feud, but for now, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston are once again tag team champions, continuing their legacy in WWE’s tag division.
With the win, The New Day are now 12-time tag team champions in WWE, breaking their own previous record of 11. Throughout their legendary run as a tag team, the group has held countless titles. This includes four separate reigns as WWE RAW Tag Team Champions, and seven reigns as WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions.
The group also have the third-longest reign of tag team championships in WWE’s history, at 483 days.
