Takeshita, Athena, Hayter Advance in Owen Hart Tournament – The April 12 edition of AEW Collision featured significant developments in both the men’s and women’s brackets of the ongoing Owen Hart Foundation Cup Tournament, with three competitors punching their tickets to the semifinals.
In the main event, Konosuke Takeshita defeated Brody King in a hard-fought match to advance in the Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament. Despite enduring a punishing onslaught, including a tombstone piledriver, a suplex-lariat combination, and two running knee strikes, King refused to stay down. Ultimately, Takeshita pulled down his knee pad and delivered a final running knee strike to secure the pinfall victory. Takeshita now moves on to face Will Ospreay in the semifinals. Ospreay previously earned his spot with a win over Kevin Knight.
On the women’s side, Athena and Jamie Hayter both emerged victorious to move forward in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament. ROH Women’s World Champion Athena defeated Harley Cameron to advance and will now face TBS Champion Mercedes Moné on AEW Dynamite: Spring BreakThru. In the other women’s match of the evening, Jamie Hayter overcame Billie Starkz in a rematch from several weeks ago to earn her place in the semifinals. Hayter is now set to take on Kris Statlander, with the match date yet to be announced.
The finals of both the men’s and women’s tournaments will take place at AEW Double or Nothing. Winners of each tournament will earn a shot at the AEW World Championship and AEW Women’s World Championship, respectively, at AEW All In: Texas.
