Rey Mysterio on Dominik Potentially Winning the Intercontinental Title – As WrestleMania 41 approaches, Rey Mysterio remains at odds with his son Dominik on WWE television, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t rooting for his success. Speaking to Bill Pritchard at WWE and Medium Rare’s WrestleMania After Dark party, Rey opened up about how he would feel if Dominik captures the Intercontinental Championship this weekend in Las Vegas.
Rey, a two-time Intercontinental Champion himself, admitted he would be overwhelmed with pride if his son joined the title’s storied lineage.
“Oh my God! That title is very historic. Some of the biggest legends of this industry have held that title prior to holding on a world title,” Rey said. “As a father, that would give me the biggest sense of pride to be able to see him as IC Champion. You have no idea.”
While his personal pride is apparent, Rey also acknowledged his competitive side. If Dominik manages to dethrone Bron Breakker at WrestleMania 41, Rey would relish the opportunity to challenge him for the championship—if Dominik agrees to it.
“As a competitor, I would be so happy because I would love to do nothing more than to step in and challenge him and see if he really has what it takes to beat his dad. And that would be an incredible challenge for me,” Rey explained. “At the end of the day, you know, if he does become champion… he’ll probably give me the runaround. He won’t want to challenge me. Or he won’t want to put the title on the line against me.”
Still, the Hall of Famer wished his son well ahead of the high-stakes Fatal 4-Way match at WrestleMania, which features Dominik, Penta El Zero Miedo, and Finn Bálor all attempting to unseat the reigning champion Bron Breakker.
“Overall, I wish him the best of luck. I think he’s an incredible competitor, I think he has what it takes. And if he pulls some of those Eddie ‘fiascoes’ that he tends to do, I think he might become IC Champion. But best of luck to him.”
Rey Mysterio is also slated for in-ring action in Las Vegas, where he will take on El Grande Americano.
