Kamala’s Family Issues Statement Following WWE Hall of Fame Legacy Induction – Following WWE’s announcement that James “Kamala” Harris will be honored as a Legacy inductee in the 2025 WWE Hall of Fame, his family has issued a heartfelt public statement reflecting on his journey and legacy in professional wrestling.
Shared via Facebook, the statement expresses deep gratitude to WWE and those who championed Kamala’s recognition, underscoring the lasting impact of his career and personal story.
“On behalf of our family, we want to extend our deepest thanks to WWE for the incredible honor of inducting James Harris, known and loved around the world as Kamala ‘The Ugandan Giant,’ into the WWE Hall of Fame,” the family wrote.
They went on to reflect on Harris’s humble beginnings, recalling how he rose from poverty and tragedy to become one of wrestling’s most memorable characters. “James’ story is one of strength, resilience, and perseverance. Growing up in poverty after losing his father at a young age, James worked as a sharecropper to help support his family. It was through sheer determination that he carved out a path to greatness.”
Kamala competed against some of the biggest names in the industry, including Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Sgt. Slaughter, Randy Savage, Bret Hart, and The Ultimate Warrior. The family highlighted the significance of these matchups, stating they “remind us not only of wrestling’s golden era — but of Kamala’s rightful place among its legends.”
Though his later years were marred by severe health issues and financial hardship, the family emphasized that Kamala’s faith remained unwavering. “Though his later years were marked by hardship, health challenges, and heartbreak—through it all, his faith in Jesus Christ remained a constant source of strength. We know James would be overwhelmed with joy to be welcomed back into the WWE family—a place where he always felt at home.”
The family also extended their appreciation to WWE, 16 Creative, fans, friends, and supporters who stood by Kamala and continued to push for his legacy to be honored.
“To the fans, to WWE, to 16 Creative, and to every friend and family member who has never stopped believing in his legacy—thank you. Your love, support, and tireless efforts made this moment possible. Because of you, Kamala’s legacy will forever be etched into the history of professional wrestling. Welcome home, Kamala.”
Kamala passed away in August 2020 at the age of 70, following complications from diabetes and cardiac issues. His induction into the WWE Hall of Fame as a Legacy honoree serves as a fitting tribute to a man who, through adversity, etched his place in wrestling history.
